Call 'em what you want, Jay's name is synonymous with club banging hits, remixes from back in the day we still can't stop singing, and a pioneer in starting mash-ups of various generes, including the marriage of reggaeton & bhangra - bhangraton! Jay gave us an insight on events, his life & what's next...
RP: What music trends do you feel are taking shape for the upcoming season?
JD: This year the music is all high energy, uptempo dance music. As a dj and music programmer I welcome this trend as it allows me to weave in and out of current top 40 hits with classic 80s and 90s crowd favorites seamlessly. The dancefloor energy never lets up and everyone parties hard! Another trend I have noticed is many clients want a dance club vibe at their weddings instead of a cookie cutter "wedding reception" playlist.
RP: Of all the places you have traveled to be a club dj, where is the funnest place you traveled for a wedding?
JD: My experience as a club DJ is what draws clients in having be the maestro on their big day. I have been lucky to have traveled to places like Nevis, Cancun and Barbados, among others, to dj wedding receptions for locals as well as clients making those locales their destination of choice. I'm looking forward to adding more locations on my list.
RP: In terms of providing sound and lighting, do you find a destination wedding to be easier or more difficult to?
JD: Finding sound and lighting is much easier these days due to the networking I have done when I have traveled to various cities. Word of mouth is also key in choosing the proper sound and lighting company. With my experience, I know exactly which items to look for and the best prices to find for my client.
RP: What will we be hearing from you on the production end?
JD: My music productions release on my label Soltrenz Records. Our songs are consistently playlisted on SiriusXM as well as many dance stations around the globe. My label partners continue to write songs for artists such as Bob Sinclar, David Guetta, etc. One of our biggest song writes is Bob Sinclar's "Love Generation". It went on to become the 2006 FIFA World Cup song!
RP: Whats next for Jay Dabhi?
JD: The most important event I have ever been a part of - MY wedding! LOL...Of course I am not djing it but I am making sure the sound, lighting, dj, decor, and food is top notch. Remember - the things guests remember the most are the food, the entertainment, and decor. Don't skimp out on those! It's what guests taste, what they see, and what they hear that makes an event remarkable & unforgettable.
RP: How do your fans know what you are up to?
JD: They can follow me on twitter: jaydabhi, Facebook under Jay Dabhi, club events on jaydabhi.com & for private bookings, contact Sharad at DJ's Unlimited South Asia.
